    Stop complaining.

As with any type of grading to judge if you are ready to be promoted in belt rank, your instuctor looks at how well you do when rolling, and how well you apply and use the techniques you have been learning.

Again, stop complaining. THEY did the techniques right, and YOU did not. That’s why you were not promoted.

Keep training, and pay attention during classes

Some schools are definitely different. In my academy, our progress is monitored and we are not promoted until we gain 4 stripes on one belt. As of right now I am a three stripe white belt and have been training for 5 months. I take it that you are under 16 and thus follow the white to yellow progression? In my academy, the under 16 grading follows the same grading system as the adult classes. (4 Stripes to go from white to blue) Maybe your gym has more lenient grading when it comes to the under 16 category? Or perhaps it is just different altogether based on your professor’s method. However, from what I know and from most gyms and academies I have visited, grading is indeed done with stripes in between belts.
